When I started writing my novel, I hit the ground running. I had created a plot, created the various stories, characters, places, historical times. I then started writing, until the first problems arose: writer's block? No, the refusal to continue, perhaps. There was something that wasn't right , that wasn't working. What was that character for? What was the point of that story I introduced? My novel was about to collapse like the classic house of cards. I was tempted at least three times to abandon it and move on to another, but I'm stubborn and I continue to like this story. There was only one thing left to do: understand why that story didn't work , where the real problem was hidden. And I started working to make it work. How can we understand if our book is valid, if everything stands up, if there are no gaps or weak parts? I thought of five methods that we can use, preferably all together. #1 – Write a synopsis What is the point of a synopsis in the meantime ? Is this perhaps the plot of the book? Yes and no.
It is a text that must illustrate the strengths of the book and convince the publisher to read it. Whether he publishes it or not is another matter. Is it always useful to write a synopsis? No, the last publisher didn't ask me. He only Special Data asked me for the manuscript and the CV. Why then write a synopsis? Because it might be useful, many publishers ask for it. But in this context we need it for another reason: to understand whether our book - novel, essay, manual, it doesn't matter - works or not. If we can find the strengths, if we can understand what usefulness and audience our book will have, we will have a better chance of it being read by a publisher. How do you write a synopsis ? I've only written one so far, so I'm not best suited to give advice on writing a synopsis. I will therefore leave you to an external resource.

Are the story and topic strong? This is why we must identify the premise of our book : the demonstration that that book truly represents value for the reader, that that book starts from an idea that stands, that does not fade away, that does not leave the reader dissatisfied. The idea for a book is everything, it is what the writing of the book itself starts from. The idea is like the foundation of a house: if it is not solid, the story collapses in an instant. Once again I leave you to the words of Maria Teresa to understand what the premise is. Recommended reading : Telling is demonstrating . #3 – Create a 3-act structure Are there 3 blocks in your novel? No? Then you are in bad shape, really bad.
